The sun is shining. There’s not a cloud in the Indiana sky. It’s an easy day to make a vow to go outside every day from now on, even when the winds, the rain and the snow come. If little Mary Lennox made herself stronger by fighting against the wind, then why not us?
Circling back to the children’s classics I’ve never read, I bought Frances Hodgson Burnett’s The Secret Garden on Sunday afternoon and I’ve had my nose in it every chance I get.
A lady in the check-out line in a Bloomington book store told me she read it at least 50 times when she was a little girl. You can’t get a better recommendation than that, can you?
I love its reminder of the restorative power of nature to heal and replace negative thoughts with better ones. At least that’s been true for me.
These scenes are from my secret garden on Lake Monroe in Bloomington, Indiana. I hope my pledge to get outside every day lasts through winter. What about you? Remember: “Where you tend a rose, my lad, a thistle cannot grow.”
Where is your favorite place to walk outside?
Life is short. Wear the good stuff.
